Our team of 13+ staff provides a complete range of on-site, online, and studio-based multimedia services to support Indigenous leaders, community members, and organizations in meeting their objectives. The Opportunity:

Working with a vibrant, agile team, the successful candidate will be expected to support our founder to deliver remarkable results. They will lead web development efforts and implement robust security measures to ensure our websites remain protected against cyber threats.

Candidates must be self-motivated, great at problem-solving, and proactive in implementing security best practices. The ideal candidate will have senior-level expertise in web development, excellent communication skills, a strong appreciation for Indigenous issues, and a deep understanding of website security, risk mitigation, and breach prevention. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate a genuine desire to have a positive impact on the world.

What you’ll do:

Website Development

  • Build, launch, and maintain responsive websites using WordPress, adhering to design specifications and functionality requirements.

  • Implement strong security protocols, including firewall protection, DDoS mitigation, malware scanning, and intrusion detection systems.

  • Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, PIPEDA) and best practices.

  • Develop and maintain security documentation for internal use and client reference

Content Management

  • Use provided creative briefs, site maps, and content plan to deliver fast loading, and pleasant to navigate WordPress sites for our clients.

  • Identify and suggest enhancements to improve website functionality, design, or user experience.

Website Design & Optimization

  • Collaborate with project teams to design visually appealing, user-friendly, and secure web pages.

  • Optimize site performance to ensure fast load times, responsive layouts, and SEO best practices.

  • Ensure all websites are fast loading, secure, easy to use and well maintained.

Theme & Plugin Installation

  • Install, configure, and customize themes and plugins to meet specific project needs, including multimedia embeds and other technical requirements.

  • Monitor and regularly update WordPress core, themes, and plugins to prevent vulnerabilities.

  • Harden security configurations to prevent unauthorized access and minimize attack surfaces.

  • Conduct penetration testing to identify and fix security weaknesses.

Threat Prevention & Security

  • Build and maintain forms using SMTP in order to ensure deliverability while minimizing spam.

  • Monitor for security threats, vulnerabilities, and potential breaches.

  • Implement regular security audits and penetration testing to mitigate risks.

  • Work with hosting providers to ensure server-side security measures are up to date.

  • Respond quickly to any security incidents, conducting forensic analysis and recovery efforts.

Technical Maintenance

  • Perform regular updates to WordPress core, themes, and plugins to keep websites secure and functioning smoothly.

  • Maintain sites to ensure WordPress and PHP versions are kept up to date along with all plugins to maintain site functionality and security.

  • Work with plugin, theme, host, and domain vendors to configure and manage DNS settings securely.

  • Implement SSL certificates, manage encryption standards, and ensure secure data transmission.

  • Conduct timely maintenance to ensure optimal website performance.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3-5+ years of WordPress development experience, including theme and plugin customization.

  • Strong knowledge of web security principles, including firewall configuration, SSL/TLS, authentication protocols, and malware removal.

  • Experience hardening WordPress and implementing security best practices.

  • Proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, MySQL, and security tools.

  • Effective troubleshooting skills to quickly identify and mitigate threats.

  • Attention to detail, ensuring all areas of website development, security, safety, and compliance are met with a high level of accuracy.

Preferred:

  • Background in SEO, UX/UI design, or experience with additional CMS platforms.

  • Experience with penetration testing, vulnerability assessments, and incident response.

  • Demonstrated interest in Indigenous organizations and/or social justice issues.

  • Certifications such as Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), GIAC Web Application Defender (GWEB), or WordPress Security certifications are an asset.
