CELEBRATING SEASON THREE OF THE SPILLING LABRADOR TEA UNDER CEDAR TREES PODCAST

On November 17, 2023, we celebrated the launch of the third season of the Indigenous podcast “Spilling Labrador Tea Under Cedar Trees,” with an Open House event organized and promoted by Remarkable Communications.

Hosted by founders Katelynne Adams and Madeleine Bégin (Kate & Madz), the Open House Event was a great success. Fans of the Podcast had a rare opportunity to meet the founders and connect over refreshments, Smoked Salmon, and Bannock from Songhees Catering. There was also an opportunity for guests and media to tour the event and studio space at the Haus of Owl, a local arts collective and the site of Remarkable Communications offices.

During an interview with CBC Radio, guest hosted by Kathryn Marlow, our efforts were graciously acknowledged by the podcast duo. Madz expressed heartfelt appreciation, stating, “Shoutout to Remarkable (Communications)for helping to put this all together, it’s just been beautiful.” This recognition on national radio is not only an honour for us but a testament to the power of collaborative efforts in centering Indigenous voices.

SHOWCASING W̱SÁNEĆ’S HISTORIC LAND BACK EVENT

In August 2023, the W̱SÁNEĆ Land Trust Society held a ceremony to celebrate the return of 45.7 acres of critical wetland from a local family.

The result of a collaboration between the Berglund Family, the Habitat Acquisition Trust and the W̱SÁNEĆ Land Trust Society, the land return is the first returns of land to an Indigenous organization via the Ecological Gifts Program.

Shares Chief Don Tom, chair of the WSÁNEĆ Leadership Council and Chief of the Tsartlip First Nation “There is very little Crown land available for the nations to use in the area, so any opportunity to acquire land is meaningful”, he said. “We’re thrilled at the opportunity for WSÁNEĆ to have lands to restore and to use for medicines.”

Local and National media were invited and attended the event via a media relations campaign provided by Remarkable Communications. In addition, a TikTok video we produced about the event has over 28k views.
